The project is located in the North District of Nantah Drum Tower Campus, at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical axes of the North District Campus, and at the core of various dynamic lines of Nantah Campus. As a witness to the history of the Gulou campus of NTU, the Institute of Literature and Research has the eternal memory of NTU students of all ages.

Under the promotion of urban renewal and campus quality improvement in the new era, the Institute of Literature and Research has also ushered in the opportunity of rebirth. How to reactivate this campus core area, make it better integrate into the Nanda campus, give full play to the key role of its northern campus central node and respond to the call of low carbon and energy conservation at the same time, is an important research direction of this renewal project.

The original building of the small building of the Institute of Literature and Research is a two-story masonry structure on the ground, divided into two buildings in the north and south. It was built around 1953. The Liuyuan building was built in the 1960 s. The building was originally used as an office and is now vacant. According to the on-site investigation, the roof itself has structural and damage problems, and the wall has serious peeling and mildew, and there is a greater safety hazard. Through research and evaluation, the repair and maintenance cost of the small building of the Institute of Culture and Research is high, so the plan is to rebuild the original site after demolition. The construction of the pou garden is well preserved and can be put into use again only if it is partially renovated and updated. The new scheme is inherited and continued, preserving the historical memory of the Institute, making the building better integrated into the updated and renovated campus environment. At the same time, the new building uses recyclable building materials, active shading and other low-carbon design techniques to promote the renewal and regeneration process of the Gulou campus.
